David’s mental illness puts Robyn and her unborn baby at risk…

Having waved his son Ollie off to Spain to go and live with his mum last week, ED nurse David Hide has been slowly going off the rails, but his behaviour takes a dangerous turn this week.

David, who suffers from bipolar disorder, has worryingly stopped taking his medication and, when he turns up for work in a flash vintage sports car and sharp suit, ED consultant Dylan Keogh and nurse Robyn Miller are deeply concerned about his mental state.

David (Jason Durr) reassures them he’s still seeing a psychiatrist, but things begin to spiral out of control when he’s called out to help a burns victim trapped in a smoldering car.

As the team rushes the injured patient back to Holby where they battle to save his life, David becomes increasingly manic and unprofessional, even offering to kiss the victim to cheer him up.

Later, with his mental health deteriorating, David takes it upon himself to warn the panicked patient that he’s dying against nurse manager Jacob Masters’ professional advice, leaving Jacob no choice but to order him home.

David refuses to go, however, and later turns up to Duffy’s 56th birthday party where he offers to be her stripper and starts removing his clothes!

Realising David needs to leave before he causes any more trouble, heavily pregnant Robyn (Amanda Henderson) persuades him to take her for a spin in his sports car.

But as they hurtle off at top speed with a manic David at the wheel, Robyn experiences her first contractions. Meanwhile, Dylan makes a terrifying discovery – David’s psychiatrist doesn’t exist!

Can David be stopped and helped before Robyn and her unborn baby come to serious harm?

Amanda Mealing as Connie Beauchamp

Also this week, Iain’s new positive attitude is getting on his sister Gem’s nerves. Stern doctor Lily’s tough skinned approach to Gem’s studies proves to be exactly what the teenager needs to improve her numeracy and literacy skills. Gem sacks Iain and Lily becomes her tutor.

Elsewhere, Grace continues to give her mother Connie Beauchamp (Amanda Mealing) the silent treatment. Connie, in the meantime, feels more connected to Grace’s school friend Hugo than she does to her own daughter.

When Sam asks Connie to look after Grace, as his work schedule has changed, Connie makes a telling choice. She calls Home Care to supervise Grace while she decides to support Hugo at the school talent show. Will Grace and Sam discovers Connie’s deceit?

Meanwhile, Duffy looks forward to celebrating her 56th birthday with her Holby ED colleagues. Fortunately Charlie manages to keep Duffy in the dark that everyone thought it was her 60th birthday!

This week also sees the return of guest star Pam St. Clement! The former EastEnders’ actress, reprises her role as no-nonsense Sally. Could this mark the beginning of a recurring role?
