After his son – also heir to Louis's throne – was kidnapped in the last series, King Louis is determined to root out those who betrayed him, but still finds time to romp with his hugely pregnant mistress, the seductive Montespan.

Yet while Louis is busy in the bedroom, his enemies at home and abroad are moving against him and whispers fill Versailles’ golden halls.

With his once-loyal brother Philippe nowhere to be seen after storming out, Louis is in need of new allies, but wastes no time dispatching a traitor with a brutal new torture device.
