Former Hollyoaks and Strictly star Danny Mac hopes he can make dancing a full-time profession, starting this summer

Actor Danny Mac plans to centre his career on dance after dazzling TV viewers across the country with his Strictly Come Dancing performance.

The former Hollyoaks star’s stunning jungle-themed samba with partner Oti Mabuse helped propel him to the final of the competition last year.

This summer he will be putting his dancing shoes back on as he takes the stage at the Regents Park Open Air Theatre for the musical extravaganza, On The Town.

“I have loved dancing,” he told the Press Association. “It has changed my life and I am so relieved I have been able to keep doing it.

“I was worried it would disappear as quickly as it came.”

Asked if he planned to become a full-time dancer following his Strictly success, he said: “I hope so.

“It has been wonderful. Strictly was very focused and I had no other life, but now other doors have opened that I can sit down and think about.”

His comments came as he attended the Olivier Awards in London on Sunday, the night before kicking off On The Town rehearsals.

The star-studded event at the Royal Albert Hall saw Billie Piper named best actress for her role in Yerma, while Harry Potter And The Cursed Child star Jamie Parker won best actor.
