Diane Langton, who plays Nana McQueen, says: “Its very rewarding for all the work we do all year round"

Anna Passey, best known as basement captive Sienna Blake, adds: “It’s nice to be recognised in something that’s not soap-specific. It’s a real treat for us all.”

Jeremy Sheffield, who plays villain Patrick Blake, explains why he reckons Hollyoaks has come to the attention of the folks at BAFTA:

“It shows the development Hollyoaks made in the last couple of years. Hopefully it’s a recognition that the quality of the show has gone up… there’s been a change in attitudes.’

James Sutton backs him up, saying: “We put so much into it and we really, really cares so this BAFTA nod is lovely.”

All four went onto reveal there’s more drama in store for fans in future story lines:

James: “There’s more tears and heartbreak. I do angst really well!” Jeremy jokes: “I have it easy because I made a decision that Patrick would never smile fully with his teeth, which he never has in three years - and I’ve only cried once!”

The cast also sing the praises of the crew behind the scenes, who make it all happen. Anna: “The soap is a family. We’ve got the nicest crew – they’ve been doing it since Brookside days so it’s a pleasure to go into work every day.”

Jeremy: “For all our departments to be up for a BAFTA, it’s really something special.”

Well done Hollyoaks cast & crew from all of us at What's on TV!
