Last Call, Pitches.
A cappella underdogs the Barden Bellas return for a threequel: Pitch Perfect 3. Post-college life hasn't turned out as they'd hoped. But Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Hailee Steinfeld and co rediscover their pep after reuniting for an overseas tour entertaining US troops in Europe.
Along the way, Wilson's irrepressibly brash Fat Amy has to deal with a shifty figure from her past (John Lithgow, sporting a cheerfully dodgy Australian accent), while her fellow Bellas face nervy riff-offs against a new set of rivals, including a sassy all-girl rock band led by Orange Is the New Black's Ruby Rose.
There's no denying that the series' shtick is being stretched more than a little thin here, yet a peppering of upbeat songs and jokey one-liners ensures there's still some fun to be had.

Certificate 12. Runtime 89 mins. Director Trish Sie
Pitch Perfect 3 available on Blu-ray, DVD & Digital from Universal Pictures.

A film critic for over 25 years, Jason admits the job can occasionally be glamorous – sitting on a film festival jury in Portugal; hanging out with Baz Luhrmann at the Chateau Marmont; chatting with Sigourney Weaver about The Archers – but he mostly spends his time in darkened rooms watching films. He’s also written theatre and opera reviews, two guide books on Rome, and competed in a race for Yachting World, whose great wheeze it was to send a seasick film critic to write about his time on the ocean waves. But Jason is happiest on dry land with a classic screwball comedy or Hitchcock thriller.
