59th BFI London Film Festival | Sunday 18th October: Pick of the Day - Steve Jobs

For the third time in eight years, Danny Boyle closes the London Film Festival with his latest movie. Following the triumphs of Slumdog Millionaire (2008) and 127 Hours (2010), Boyle returns with Steve Jobs, his biopic of the inspirational and controversial co-founder of Apple. Based on the best-selling biography by Walter Isaacson, the film is structured around three of the company’s high-stakes product launches – the Macintosh in 1984, the NeXT Cube in 1988 and the iMac in 1998. With Michael Fassbender in the leading role, a script by Aaron Sorkin (The Social Network) and the likes of Kate Winslet, Seth Rogen and Jeff Daniels in support, will Boyle’s new film repeat the multi-Oscar-winning success of Slumdog Millionaire?

Steve Jobs screens tonight at the Odeon Leicester Square at 7pm and goes on general release in the UK from 13 November.

Jason Best

A film critic for over 25 years, Jason admits the job can occasionally be glamorous – sitting on a film festival jury in Portugal; hanging out with Baz Luhrmann at the Chateau Marmont; chatting with Sigourney Weaver about The Archers – but he mostly spends his time in darkened rooms watching films. He’s also written theatre and opera reviews, two guide books on Rome, and competed in a race for Yachting World, whose great wheeze it was to send a seasick film critic to write about his time on the ocean waves. But Jason is happiest on dry land with a classic screwball comedy or Hitchcock thriller.
