Alison Steadman's Love and Marriage axed by ITV

Alison Steadman's comedy drama Love and Marriage has been axed by ITV after just one series.

Love and Marriage, which saw Alison play a woman walking out on her family on the day she retires, opened with steady although not spectacular ratings of 4.6 million viewers in its 9pm to 10pm slot.

However an ITV spokesperson told TV Times magazine that the show didn't have a future despite an all-star cast including Larry Lamb, Ashley Jensen and Celia Imrie.

"It was a quality piece, with a strong cast, however we do not see it becoming a part of our returning drama mix going forward," the spokesperson said.
