Anthony Head and Roxanne McKee describe what to expect on series 2 of Syfy's apocalyptic Dominion (VIDEO)

Dominion stars Roxanne McKee and Anthony Head have teased what's in store for their characters as the apocalyptic drama returns for its second series on Wednesday night.

Describing the action-packed show, which follows the perilous journey of a rebellious young soldier who discovers he's the unlikely saviour of humanity, Merlin star Anthony, who plays Senator David Whele in the drama, told whatsontv.co.uk: "In a nutshell, God has left the building and the archangels have universally decided that the earth is a much better place without mankind and, by means of a war of extinction, wiped out most of humankind.” "]

“There are a few enclaves of humanity left, one of which is in a city called Vega, which is actually the remains of Las Vegas. In the middle of all this is The Chosen One, played by Chris Egan, who could be the salvation of mankind – or could lead to its destruction.”

The show also stars former Coronation Street actor Tom Wisdom, as archangel Michael, and ex-EastEnder star Shivani Ghai, who plays Atika.

Ex Hollyoaks actress Roxanne revealed that her character, Lady Claire Riesen, will be at loggerheads with the Senator as they try to take control of the city. "As we head into season two, Claire’s the leader of Vega now, so she’s matured throughout season one and season two sees her as the head of this enclave and David Whele (Anthony Head) is her nemesis – he’s a nasty son-of-a *****!

"So as this season progresses, we see David and Claire fighting against each other, they both feel they know what’s right for Vega – obviously Claire is right and David’s just selfish!”

Dominion returns on Wednesday, 15 July at 9pm on Syfy.
