Jason Watkins has admitted to feeling the weight of responsibility in playing Christopher Jefferies.
Jefferies was hounded by the media during the investigation into his tenant Joanna Yeats’s murder, a crime he had nothing to do with, and Jason was awarded best actor for his role in The Lost Honour of Christopher Jefferies at the BAFTA Television Awards.
Speaking at the event, he said: “Because of the terrible events that happened we wanted to get it right and play it as well as possible.

“There we are invading his life again and putting him under scrutiny, although we’re a much kinder embrace than some sections of the media.
“But I did feel a lot of responsibility towards it.”

Jason’s next role is Mr Twit in an adaptation of the Roald Dahl tale The Twits and he revealed he had been struggling with the costume.
He said: “Underneath this make-up I’ve got a rash from the most massive red beard that I’ve been sporting for the last eight weeks, so it’s good to get the beard off – the fat suit and the beard.”
