What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Sunday 14th January

Vera, 8.00pm, ITV

Family secrets and dealings involving loan sharks are unearthed in this dark investigation. When a young woman is rammed off the road and killed, DCI Vera Stanhope (Brenda Blethyn) and right-hand man DS Aiden Healy (Kenny Doughty) initially suspect the murder has something to do with the victim’s stepmum. However, they soon realise the link that will lead to the killer lies in the suicide of a local man… Rating: *****

Coronation, 8.00pm, BBC1

Her Majesty recalls the day she was crowned Queen

It’s 65 years since a young Princess Elizabeth was crowned. Now the Queen herself talks about the day and the moment when her life changed for ever. She also recalls being present at the coronation of her father, George VI, in 1937. “I’ve seen one coronation and been the recipient in the other, which is pretty remarkable,” she says, showing a knack for understatement as well as longevity. These personal memories are what make this programme special – for example, the Queen’s recollection of the sheer weight of St Edward’s Crown, a mass of gold and precious stones usually on display at the Tower of London. She hasn’t worn it since that day. Rating: ****

McMafia, 9.00pm,BBC1

McMafia ep 4

This globe-trotting, cerebral drama seems to have divided viewers – some are relishing the twisty plotlines, while others think it’s a bit dry. If you’ve stuck with it so far, there are some great scenes tonight, as Alex’s family finally start asking questions about his odd behaviour. Well, it’s unlikely you’d go from ethical hero to shady gangster overnight without them noticing, isn’t it? Rating: ****
