Our (fictional) dream daters for Channel 4's hit series, which has moved to Tuesdays at 9pm

First Dates is so popular it's even been given its own spin-off, Celebrity First Dates, in which the likes of Esther Rantzen and Richard Blackwood were looking for love.

But celebs can be a bit boring – what if our favourite TV characters were to take part in a fictional version? Now that would be entertaining.

Here are the singletons we'd line up for a blind date in episode one...

MARY TAYLOR

FROM ITV STRICT EMBARGO - No Use Before 29 December 2015 Coronation Street - Ep 8811 Wednesday 6th January 2016 Erica Holroyd [CLAIRE KING] invites Dev Alahan [JIMMI HARKSHIN] round for dinner and Mary Taylor [PATTI CLARE] offers to babysit. But when Brendan presents Mary with flowers, assuring her he’s never been so happy since she became his girlfriend, Mary melts. Dev’s annoyed when Mary announces she can no longer babysit as she needs to prepare for her date. Oh Mary. Weatherfield's funniest lady needs a leading man to make her laugh, and Dev's just not good enough. We can just imagine her getting tipsy at the First Dates bar, and asking her date inappropriate questions...

DYLAN KEOGH

Casualty's most exasperated doctor would have to be dragged kicking and screaming, but his recent experience looking after his baby half-sister has definitely softened him. Would need to be matched with a dog lover.

ROXY MITCHELL

Programme Name: EastEnders - TX: n/a - Episode: EastEnders - Roxy Mitchell (No. n/a) - Picture Shows: Roxy Mitchell (RITA SIMONS) - (C) BBC - Photographer: Nicky Johnston

Roxy's track record with men is worse than Dot Cotton's track record with nicotine patches. If she's not stealing Ronnie's boyfriends, she's dating sexual predators. Maybe stepping out of E20 might help?

SHERLOCK HOLMES

Benedict Cumberbatch in Sherlock

Even high functioning sociopaths need a cuddle sometimes, and Watson is often too busy for his buddy. Sherlock might clash with maitre'd Fred, but hopefully the right lady would be charmed by his elementary tales of murder and peculiar table manners.

CATHERINE CAWOOD

Programme Name: Happy Valley series 2 - TX: n/a - Episode: n/a (No. n/a) - Picture Shows: Catherine (SARAH LANCASHIRE) - (C) Red Productions - Photographer: Ben Blackall

Life hasn't been kind to Happy Valley's Catherine, and it's about time the straight-talking copper had something to smile about. Hopefully she'll meet a tolerant, peaceful man who can cope with a few meltdowns...

PORTHOS

Programme Name: The Musketeers - TX: 20/06/2016 - Episode: Ep3 (No. 1) - Picture Shows: Porthos (HOWARD CHARLES) - (C) BBC - Photographer: Dusan Martincek

You'd think being a Musketeer would guarantee you female attention, but not for poor Porthos. He's been moaning about his single status in the latest series, so we'd love him to find a nice lady. Let's hope the restaurant serves French wine...
