Britney Spears has announced she will kick off the 25th MTV Video Music Awards this Sunday. But the pop–princess will not be performing at the Hollywood bash, instead her appearance will be something 'fun and unexpected', according to MTV boss Van Toffler. The singer was widely slated for her incoherent comeback performance of Gimme More at last year’s awards when she forgot the words and dance steps live on stage. But Britney, who is nominated for three awards including video of the year for her song Piece Of Me, said she wanted to be part of the ceremony. "MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs?” said Britney. “I'm excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated," she added. "I think for Britney, people are rooting for her, and she's really on the road to recovery," Mr Toffler said. "It feels like it's her year. It's our 25th anniversary of the VMAs and she's been such a critical piece of MTV's history."
