Carl Froch is ready to Tumble: 'I'm not worried about any of the women!'

Carl Froch is gearing up for his appearance on BBC1's new celebrity gymnastics show Tumble, and the World Super Middleweight boxing champion is definitely in it to win it.

"I've always been interested in gymnastics which is why I'm doing the show," says Carl 37, who defeated boxer George Groves back in May. "I'm not particularly bothered about being a celebrity so I wouldn't go into the Big Brother House. But if I can do a somersault, a back flip and a handstand I'll be happy."

The Nottingham-born fighter, who has now recovered from the food-poisoning scare which kept him out of training last week, will start competing live on Tumble from this Saturday at 6.30pm. Although Carl's confident he has the physical strength and fitness to get him far in the contest, he's found some of the training tough.

"I've really found the aerial rings difficult," he says. "The pressure on your bones when you're hanging is painful. And backward somersaults are hard. I'm never going to be able to chuck myself backwards and land on my feet. But I'm going to be very competitive.

"I see the young lad Bobby Lockwood and John Partridge from EastEnders as my main competition. I'm not worried about the older men - or any of the women!"

Tumble begins on Saturday August 9, BBC1 at 6.30pm

Nicholas Cannon
TV Content Director on TV Times, What's On TV and TV & Satellite Week

I'm a huge fan of television so I really have found the perfect job, as I've been writing about TV shows, films and interviewing major television, film and sports stars for over 25 years. I'm currently TV Content Director on What's On TV, TV Times, TV and Satellite Week magazines plus Whattowatch.com. I previously worked on Woman and Woman's Own in the 1990s. Outside of work I swim every morning, support Charlton Athletic football club and get nostalgic about TV shows Cagney & Lacey, I Claudius, Dallas and Tenko. I'm totally on top of everything good coming up too.
