Carol Vorderman game show Revolution 'axed'

A big-budget game show fronted by Carol Vorderman has reportedly been shelved by ITV before the pilot episode has even aired.

According to The Sun Revolution - which saw contestants competing to win up to £3m - one of the biggest prizes ever given away on TV - was tipped as a Saturday night ratings winner.

However the paper reports that the format has now been shelved after the pilot edition failed to impress network chiefs.

"Bosses had high hopes for Revolution, but despite the effort and expensive it just didn't work, so it was decided not to proceed," an insider told the paper.

“Revolution was always a non-broadcast pilot and it was one we decided not to go ahead with," an ITV source added.

"On the strength of the pilot we didn’t feel like it was ready to go on to a series.”

It appears to be the latest small screen flop for Carol Vorderman, whose previous show Food Glorious Food failed to drum up big audiences on ITV earlier this year.

News of the show's apparent failure comes just days after it was revealed that another ITV game show, Prize Island, faces an uncertain future.

That show, hosted by Emma Willis and Alexander Armstrong, saw contestants competing to win prizes in a tropical paradise - but reports have suggested the pilot episode may never be shown.
