- 1. Very Little Dialogue.
It's a non-English language movie, but this Belgian/French film relies largely on music and its characters' actions to tell its amusing fairytale. It's about a plucky grandmother and her pet dog who set out to rescue a champion cyclist in the Tour de France when he is kidnapped by gangsters.

- 2. Not For Kids
There are some dark moments, so it's probably not one for young kids. That means I'm happy. I have a negative knee-jerk reaction to the word animation since the genre usually goes hand in hand with child-targeted content.
- 3. Animation Style
This movie's animation feels stylishly old-fashioned in a French kind of way.
- 4. The Music

- 5. The Acclaim.
Belleville Rendez-vous was nominated for two Oscars - Best Animated Feature and Best Original song. It was also BAFTA nominated for Best Film not in the English language.
