Couch Potato’s Friday Fun | From a roaming gnome to a Travelin’ Dolly

Up in the Air, George Clooney

Remember the roaming gnome in Amelie http://youtube.com/v/8ekm_Dj0UzI roaming gnome history here.

This decades-old prank was more recently referenced in Up in the Air, with a nod to 'that French movie'. George Clooney's character Ryan Bingham lugs around a cardboard cut-out of his sister and her fiancé and photographs it in front of various landmarks as he jets around the US.

I think this may have kicked off a new trend, because guess who's doing it now?

My idol - singer, songwriter, movie star, musician, author, philanthropist, stand-up comedian, book lady, businesswoman - Dolly Parton.

A cardboard cutout Dolly is visiting 12 different locations over 12 weeks. How fabulous is that!

You can find more details on Dolly's website, Twitter page and Facebook page.

Travelin’ Dolly

If you're a Dolly fan like me, then I'm sure you'll be delighted to hear that you can sign up for email alerts to tell you when Dolly's movies are showing on TV. Click on this link - Dolly Parton - to sign up.

The next Dolly movie showing on TV is The Best Little Whorebouse in Texas on Tuesday 27th July on Sky Movies Modern Greats at 11.50am.

Up in the Air is also currently available on demand on Sky Box Office  and Filmflex.

And, both of those movies have a message for the recession - spooky.
