Maria Vieira provided a highlight of the BBC's Olympics coverage when her hen party disturbed a live broadcast from Dan Walker. And she recorded a special message for him when she married

A Brazilian bride who gatecrashed Dan Walker’s live Olympics coverage with her hen party has sent him 'kisses'from her wedding.

Maria Vieira caused a stir when she took a break from celebrating in the street with her friends for an impromptu interview with BBC presenter Dan in Rio de Janeiro.

Dan soon received an invitation from Maria’s mother to the big day on September 17, but while he could not make it back to Copacabana, he was still present at the wedding – as guests held up placards of his face.

In a video shared by BBC Breakfast, Maria said: “Hello Dan. Kiss from Rio de Janeiro, now I am married. I’m very very happy and thank you for everything. Kiss for everybody in England, I love you guys.”

Dan responded: “Those face masks are… well, I’m not entirely sure… Glad they had such a wonderful day.”

Speaking from the wedding, her new husband Everaldo Vieira suggested a future meet-up, telling Walker: “We hope to see you in London or back in Rio.”

He added: “We are very happy at this moment. We are sharing this moment with you. It’s a very important moment for us.

“And unfortunately Dan isn’t here, but we want to send this message to you Mr Walker, we are very happy to have met you and to have the opportunity to share with the whole world this happiness that we are feeling right now.”

The new Mrs Vieira – nee De Cezar – was a big hit after her surprise television appearance.

During the interview she and Dan chatted about her upcoming wedding, with Dan giving her a kiss on each cheek.

She showed off her Fluminense tattoo and declared her love for the Brazilian football team, although Dan got on the wrong side of his guest when he revealed he preferred the Flamengo team.

The bride-to-be was excited to hear she was talking to a BBC camera crew, and led her friends in a chant of “BBC, BBC, BBC.”

Dan joked: “This is lovely.”
