David Walliams speaks up for Sheridan Smith over her break from Funny Girl

David Walliams has leapt to the defence of his friend Sheridan Smith after it was announced she would take a four-week break from her show Funny Girl.

The actress is taking a leave of absence from the show for 'stress and exhaustion' and the Britain’s Got Talent judge, who appeared alongside her in A Midsummer Night’s Dream two years ago, has insisted she should be allowed to rest.

“She is obviously going through a very serious issue with her family – in any other job you would be allowed some time off, wouldn’t you?

“I think she should definitely be allowed this time off.”
