Jodie Whittaker promises fans can expect upbeat new series of Doctor Who
Doctor Who star Jodie Whittaker says the “big theme” in her first series as the Time Lord will be “hope” as she also revealed that she speaks at a “hundred miles an hour” in the role!
The 36-year-old actress, who made her debut as the 13th Time Lord last Christmas, suggested that viewers can expect her portrayal to be upbeat.
Talking about the new 10-part series, Jodie told Entertainment Weekly: “Well, I would say that it’s hopeful and fizzing with wonder.
“I have absolutely shot myself in the foot for any ADR [re-recording dialogue], because I get in there, and realise I speak at hundred miles an hour.
“If a plane goes over I’m like, ‘Are you kidding?’ I’ve got to try and match that speech of ‘Di-dda-di-didda-di-didda’? But essentially I think the big theme is hope.”
Doctor Who boss Chris Chibnall, who worked with Jodie on the hit ITV series Broadchurch, confirmed that we can expect a more jovial Time Lord.
“She’s incredibly lively, she’s funny, she’s warm, she’s inclusive, she’s energetic,” he said. “She’s the greatest friend you’d ever want to have as your guide around the universe.”
The new series of Doctor Who will start this autumn. It’s still to be officially confirmed that Jodie will be given a Christmas special, but we can’t believe the BBC won’t show a festive special.
In last year’s special, Jodie was seen falling from the TARDIS moments after transforming into the Time Lord. In the actress’s native Yorkshire accent, Jodie’s Time Lord said, “Ahh brilliant” as she got her first glance of the TARDIS controls.
