Ellis: Crickley Hall was emotional

Tom Ellis has revealed he couldn't help but be moved by his new TV series The Secret Of Crickley Hall. The Miranda heartthrob and ex-Coronation Street star Suranne Jones play a couple whose son has disappeared in mysterious circumstances in the BBC One thriller. Dad-of-three Tom, who is married to actress Tamzin Outhwaite, said: "The main thing that's come out of shooting this is the depth of emotion in it, and the depth of the emotion of being a parent, and the implication of all these horrible things. For me, it's genuinely quite moving." He added: "It's really enjoyable working with the kids and having a conversation with the girl playing my daughter, like I would have at home. But then the knock-on effect of that is that you're playing with your son in the first two scenes, then you don't see him again for the rest of the drama, because supposedly something awful has happened to him. It's something I haven't found hard to tap into." Tom said filming the ghostly series was completely different to his experience on Miranda, in which he plays dishy chef Gary. "We do Miranda in front of a live audience, so it's more like doing a play than anything else. Doing that you get instant feedback and you hope the audience at home will have laughed as much as the audience in the studio," he explained. "When you do something like this, you're filming, and I think we're all very fond of it and all hope it will be received well - we feel it has got a real heart to it - but you don't know how it's going to turn out." :: The Secret Of Crickley Hall begins on BBC One on Sunday, November 18.
