Former England cricket star Freddie Flintoff will host ITV's new show Cannonball, featuring contestants trying to conquer an aquatic obstacle course

Former England cricketer Freddie Flintoff has been named host of new water-based obstacle game show, Cannonball.

The captain of Sky 1's A League Of Their Own will be joined by a team of poolside reporters including pop star Frankie Bridge, presenters Radzi Chinyanganya and Maya Jama, and comedian Ryan Hand.

Each week the ITV show will see 24 contestants face water-based challenges focused on speed, accuracy, height and distance.

Finalists will attempt to launch themselves cannonball-style at a huge moving target covering the surface of a deep-water tank in a bid to claim the Cannonball Cup.

Freddie said: “What’s not to love about this show: Gallons of water and giant great inflatable slides are the perfect recipe for some spectacular comedy moments, but also throw into the mix some truly incredible feats from the contestants.

“I can’t wait to get started.”

Produced by Potato, the series will start filming in Valletta, Malta, in late April.
