Helena Bonham Carter and Gillian Anderson have both been cast as Miss Havisham in different adaptations of Great Expectations. The King's Speech star Helena will play the eccentric spinster in a film due to be released next year, while X Files star Gillian will play the cobweb covered bride-in-waiting in a three-part television adaptation to air at Christmas. Both projects are being produced by the BBC to mark the bicentenary of writer Charles Dickens' birth next year, The Independent reports. The feature film, directed by Mike Newell and based on a script by David Nicholls, is being produced by BBC Film and Number 9 Films and is due to start filming in October. Harry Potter star Ralph Fiennes will play villain Magwitch in the big screen version, while Ray Winstone has been cast in the role for the BBC One adaptation. Douglas Booth will play hero Pip in the television drama, and Jeremy Irvine has landed part for the big screen. Also planned for release next year as part of the Dickens' celebrations is a modern-day gangster series called Twisted, based on Oliver Twist and written by crime-writer Martina Cole for Sky. This will be pitted against a 3D film adaptation of Oliver Twist which features Fagin's gang of young street thieves running around London.
