The Fast Show co-creator Charlie Higson says he wishes he'd made a film version of the sketch show while it was at the height of its popularity in the 1990s.
Starring the likes of Paul Whitehouse, Simon Day and Mark Williams, The Fast Show brought viewers much-loved characters such as Swiss Tony, Ted and Ralph, Ron Manager and Ken and Kenneth the tailors...
"I wish at the time we'd made a Fast Show film," said Charlie at the press launch for Professor Branestawm, a BBC family comedy he adapted from Norman Hunter's well-loved short stories. "The League of Gentleman did one, but it came out years after the show had finished, but it should have come out at the time."
Speaking at the press launch for Professor Branestawm, a family comedy based on the popular short stories about a madcap inventor created by Norman Hunter due to screen on BBC1 over Christmas, Charlie explained how he wished the British film industry could be more like its American counterpart when it came to comedy.
"In America, if a character gets a good following on Saturday Night Live, they'll make a film," he said.
"Sometimes they'll be rubbish, but then sometimes you get something like Wayne's World. You've got to do them quickly and be light on your feet. The problem with the film process [in this country] is that it takes too long!"
