ITV is preparing to bring back its flagship news bulletin News at Ten after executive chairman Michael Grade branded its move 'a shocking mistake'. Sir Trevor McDonald will reportedly return as anchor on the news show that he's most closely associated with. ITV first moved News at Ten to 11pm in 1999, to make way for blockbuster movies and football matches. The network returned it to 10pm in 2001, but it was only required to go out at that time three days a week. In 2004 it was again moved, to 10.30pm, where it has stayed since. The return to 10pm means News at Ten will go head to head with BBC One's late-night news bulletin. A senior ITV insider reportedly said: "[Sir Trevor's] terribly excited about coming back. He was so disappointed when the show was moved to its later news slot... "We've been campaigning for years to get News at Ten back to its home. Better late than never." The Daily Mirror reports that News at Ten will return in the spring.
