Keeley Hawes as Louisa in The Durrells

Sob! It's been confirmed that the fourth series of The Durrells will be the last

Keeley Hawes has promised fans of her ITV hit The Durrells a “fitting farwell” as it was confirmed that the fourth series, which is about to start filming, will be the last.

The hugely popular actress, who plays matriarch Louisa Durrell in the sunny show, said: “I'm delighted to be heading back to Corfu for a final series of The Durrells. It's been such a wonderful series to work on and I'm so pleased that viewers have taken the family to their hearts as much as we have. I have no doubt that the brilliant Simon Nye will give the family a fitting and fabulous farewell.”

Heading back to Corfu for a final time are also Louisa’s problematic children – Gerry (Milo Parker), Leslie (Callum Woodhouse), Larry (Josh O Connor) and, of course, not forgetting Margo (Daisy Waterstone).

Spiro will be back

Also back is Alexis Georgoulis, who plays charming Spiro, the man Louisa almost got together with in the last series after a long will-they-won’t-they romance. Rev actor Miles Jupp will also be back as hapless cousin Basil, with Anna Savva as housekeeper Lugaretzia, Yorgos Karamihos as Dr. Theo Stephanides and Lucy Black as Florence Petridis.

The fourth series will see Louisa opening the doors of the family villa as a guest house – the problem is Basil is their only paying guest!

Meanwhile, Larry is trying to get one of his risqué books published, while Margo starts a beauty salon, Leslie throws himself into work and Gerry keeps collecting more and more animals.
