Series two of the hit ITV thriller Marcella has started shooting with new cast announcements
Anna Friel will be joined by Keith Allen and Nigel Planer in the next series of her ITV crime thriller Marcella.
The actress is reprising the role of DS Marcella Backland in the noir detective show, which drew huge ratings during its first series in 2016.
Eddie The Eagle actor Allen and The Young Ones’ Planer join returning cast members including Ray Panthaki, Nicholas Pinnock and Jamie Bamber in the second series.
Shooting is under way on the new eight-part run, which is once again set in contemporary London and begins with the discovery of a body inside a wall.
A devastated Marcella soon works out that the body is that of schoolboy Leo Priestley, who was abducted a few years beforehand and was a friend of her own son.
Anna said: “I’m thrilled to be reprising the role of Marcella and want to thank ITV for recommissioning this powerful London based noir drama.
“The reaction from everyone has been amazing, although the real question I keep being asked is whether the green parka will be making an appearance in season two as well?”
Marcella is expected to return later this year.
