Lee Mack has hinted that Not Going Out is coming to an end after eight years.

The comedian created, writes and stars in the comedy show – which has been shown on the BBC since 2006.

But Lee revealed to The Sun that when the seventh series comes to a close on Christmas Eve it could be the last time it ever goes out.

He said: “The truth of the matter is it could be the last ever episode of Not Going Out.”

Fans are waiting to find out the result of the cliffhanger storyline which saw layabout Lee propose to landlady Lucy (Sally Bretton) in the last episode.

Lee added: “For the last eight years Not Going Out has dominated my life. It takes about six months a year to write and two or three months to film, the bulk of the year.

“It’s time for a little down time now.”

But the 46-year-old stand-up comedian admitted the show had given him a taste for acting.

He said: “I’m very much a stand-up in a sitcom, I’m not an actor.

“It’s still a gaggy sitcom, I’m not pretending it’s some great Shakespearean piece, but it was just nice dipping the toes into the dramatic way of writing.

“I probably am starting to have a little bit of desire to get more into that world, which I never used to have.”

And now the show is over Lee revealed he is “desperate” to bag a cameo in Doctor Who for his next role.
