Former Take That star Robbie Williams has dropped out of his role as guest judge on Let It Shine less than 24 hours before he was due to appear in the grand final

Singer-songwriter Robbie Williams has pulled out of appearing as a guest judge on Let It Shine due to an “ailment”, it has been reported.

Curiously, though, although he is not going to be serving as a judge on the panel, Robbie will still be going ahead with a special performance on the show as planned.

Robbie will be joining former Take That bandmates Mark Owen and Howard Donald on stage with the show’s head judge Gary Barlow.

Jason Orange will not be making it a full set after he quit the band in 2014.

The BBC are staying tight-lipped about what song the remaining members will perform but viewers are promised it will be “one of the band’s biggest hits”.

A BBC spokesman said that the broadcaster wished Robbie well and a speedy recovery, reports The Express.

Replacing Robbie as guest judge will be comedian Peter Kay, who will be taking a seat next to Gary, Dannii Minogue, Martin Kemp and Amber Riley.

The Let It Shine final will see three bands battle it out and perform twice for the judges before the public ultimately decides who wins.

The group crowned the winners of the competition will take their place in The Band - a stage musical based on the songs of Take That created by Gary's theatre production.

The Let It Shine final airs on BBC1 tonight at 6.45pm.
