Lewis returns to ITV for eighth series

Kevin Whately and Laurence Fox are to return as Lewis and Hathaway in a new six-part series of Oxford-set ITV crime drama Lewis, that will see a new dynamic developing between the two sleuths.

The drama seemingly ended last year with series seven, as Hathaway questioned his future in the force.

Now, after taking an extended break, he is back at work and has been promoted to Inspector, while the retired Lewis, a more instinctive solver of crimes, is drafted back in to renew the partnership.

Clare Holman and Rebecca Front will also be reprising her roles as forensic pathologist Laura Hobson and Chief Superintendent Jean Innocent.

“Viewers have a great deal of respect for Inspector Lewis and a huge loyalty to Kevin Whately,” says Director of Drama Steve November. "Together with Laurence, he has forged a formidable partnership, and we’re delighted to have them back on ITV.”

The new series will go into production in March.
