Binoculars at the ready! Love Island winner Jack Fincham and wildlife presenter Chris Packham are off birdwatching…

In one of TV’s more unlikely double acts, Love Island winner Jack Fincham has teamed up with Winterwatch star Chris Packham for a new BBC show!

Jack, who says that Chris was a childhood hero, aims to encourage more Brits to fall in love with the county’s wildlife in his new show, Nature Dates, which is now available to watch on BBCiPlayer.

While on Love Island, Jack revealed a passion for birdwatching and nature in general, sharing unusual facts about the migratory patterns of swallows, flamingo feathers and polar bear fur.

Jack, who won Love Island with Dani Dyer last year, now gets a crash course on birdwatching from Chris as the duo take a stroll around London’s Walthamstow wetlands, watching out for cormorants, coots and an elusive kingfisher in the first episode of Nature Dates.

Speaking about Nature Dates, Jack said: “I’ve loved nature ever since I was a little kid. Nature Dates is a dream come true – walking around amazing areas and seeing all sorts of animals. This time Chris takes me round a nature reserve and helps me spot some really beautiful birds right in the heart of London.

“I’m hoping people follow my example and go and ask someone on a nature date – could be with a friend or someone they fancy. There’s always something to talk about, and you can find romance in nature, you just have to get out there and look for it.”

Chris Packham said: “Going birding with newbies is always great - especially when they are as keen as Jack. He wasn’t exactly a birding virgin though, he has quite a bit of knowledge but was desperate to see his first kingfisher. Luckily I delivered and he was delighted! Actually that’s an understatement - he was delirious!”

During the show, Jack praises Chris “as the best possible person” to team up with. And he’s delighted when Chris gives him a pair of binoculars as they head off…
