Mackenzie Crook cast in futuristic US drama

Mackenzie Crook, best known as salesman Gareth in The Office, has landed a role in one of four new US drama series being made for Fox.

The US TV network's new programmes include a crime thriller, a courtroom drama and a time-travelling hero.

Pirates of the Caribbean star Mackenzie will appear in Almost Human, a police drama set 35 years in the future when officers are paired with robots. It will be produced by Bad Robot, the production company of Lost creator JJ Abrams, and will also star Karl Urban, who JJ directed in the Star Trek films.

Gang Related follows a rising star in LA's elite Gang Task Force played Ramon Rodriguez, who starred in the disastrous remake of Charlie's Angels.

In Rake, Little Miss Sunshine star Greg Kinnear makes his TV series debut as a self destructive criminal defence lawyer, based on the Australian series of the same name.

Sleepy Hollow is a modern remake of the Washington Irving classic. It tells the story of Ichabod Crane, who travels two and a half centuries through time to save the world from the brink of destruction where he teams up with a modern police officer. Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci starred in Tim Burton's 1999 film version of the story.

Fox has also commissioned a number of comedy series, including the US version of Gavin & Stacey.
