From Altitude Film Distribution comes the impressive Spanish noir Marshland (La Isla Minima), which lands in selected cinemas today (7 August).
Set in Andalusia’s fenland marshes in 1980 at the start of Spain’s transition to democracy following Franco's death in 1975, the claustrophobic crime drama follows two troubled homicide detectives, Juan (Javier Gutiérrez) and Pedro (Raúl Arévalo), as they investigate the disappearance of two teenage girl in a remote southern town where a cunning predatory stalks and kills.
The winner of some 38 awards, including 10 Goya’s, and a huge box-office success in its native homeland, director Alberto Rodriguez’s acclaimed thriller has been likened to The Secret in Their Eyes, Se7en and True Detective, while it’s luminous cinematography is inspired by Roman Polanski’s seminal classic Chinatown.
