Newcomer Matt Stokoe is one of the new faces as E4’s brilliant Misfits powers up for a fourth series. TV&Satellite Week magazine caught up with him to find out more... Tell us about your character, Alex... "He’s one of the first main characters who’s not in orange, but he’s integral to the storyline. He’s a bit of a loner and fancies himself to be a bit of a James Dean or Marlon Brando type." What is his superpower? "I can’t tell you, but it is revealed in quite dramatic fashion halfway through the season, and explains why he’s such an intense guy." How does he get involved with the Misfits gang? "They come across him at the bar where Curtis works. He catches the eye of new girl Jess, played by Karla Crome, they start a little romance and, as a result, he starts hanging out with the rest of the gang. There’s a bit of a love triangle going on because Finn, another new character played by Nathan McMullen, is in love with Jess as well." Is it tough joining the cast of such a popular series? "It is, because the bar’s been set so high by the previous gang. You hope that you can keep up that momentum, quality and attention to detail. The show is so particular with its iconography and style and, despite the new faces, the world of Misfits is very much there." Can you give us any clues about what’s coming up in the new series? "There’s a huge, biblical series finale featuring the four horsemen of the apocalypse." What’s it like working with Joe Gilgun, who plays Rudy? "Joe is the loveliest guy I’ve ever met, but also the craziest. Hanging out with him is kind of like changing channel every three seconds and trying to create a narrative out of what you’re watching." With so many new faces, is now a good time to catch Misfits for the first time "The majority of the new characters have no connection to the old ones, so it’s a good jumping-in point." Now the obligatory Misfits question: what superpower would you like to have? "I’d have the ability to stop time. You could get up to anything – not that I’d do anything illegal, of course." If you could bring back one of the former cast members, who would you choose? "Robert Sheehan, because I’d love to see Nathan and Rudy go head-to-head and see who comes out on top. They’re probably the biggest two personalities that have ever existed in human history." Misfits returns to E4 on Sunday, October 28 at 10pm
