Is Nikki about to have a change of luck in the romantic department?

American actor Michael Landes will make his debut as the new man in the life of Dr Nikki Alexander in Silent Witness on Monday.

“Matt’s job title is US Chief of Mission, but it’s easiest to describe him as Ambassador to London,” said Michael (whose extensive CV includes CSI, Upstairs Downstairs, Miranda and New Tricks). Michael was also one half of another Anglo-American romance, with Tamsin Greig in the 2005 BBC drama Love Soup.

As for Matt, he arrives and enters Nikki’s life when another US diplomat is shot dead in London.

“The investigation is to do with the US Embassy, the UK Home Office, and the special relationship – it’s a jurisdiction issue, as someone from the US has died on UK soil”, revealed the 45-year-old star. “So Nikki and Matt meet under dire circumstances. But then they fall in love, so it feels like part crime drama, part Richard Curtis movie!”

Given Nikki’s dire track record, we’re not holding out much hope that she’s finally found love… but then again perhaps her luck has finally turned! Emilia Fox is hopeful!

However, with Matt at risk from an assassin, maybe her bad luck is about so strike again!

Silent Witness continues on Monday at 9.00pm on BBC1.
