Actress Michelle Keegan has confessed that she packed slippers and a supply of traditional teabags to help her feel at home while filming for season three of Our Girl.

The busy production schedule has seen her travel to Nepal, South Africa and Malaysia this year as she reprises her role as Corporal Georgie Lane in the BBC One show.

Michelle’s home comforts have seen her through a gruelling regime, which included a pre-filming bootcamp and a fresh range of dramatic stunts.

Ahead of the show’s return next month, she said: “I wanted to feel at home so I’ve brought Yorkshire Tea bags in my suitcase as well as my slippers.

“It’s been a lot more physically demanding than the first one, definitely.

“There are a lot more stunts involved, more Army-based scenes and a lot more running, which I’m not very good at.”

She added: “I’ve been covered in bruises.”

The former Coronation Street star, 30, began filming in April alongside co-star Luke Pasqualino and Shalom Brune-Franklin, who joins the cast as new character Private Maisie Richards.

Michelle said of the new arrival: “Maisie is very strong-natured and it’s very challenging for Georgie as she’s her mentor.

“She has to look after her and keep her in check but Maisie is a bit of a rebel. At the end of the last episode they do come together as a team and it’s a bit of girl power.”

Commenting on her experience of the show so far, Shalom said: “It’s been nuts. It’s always pretty daunting walking into something on its third season and I didn’t think I’d have it as easy as I did.

“It hasn’t really hit me yet but everyone was so incredibly lovely and welcoming.

“I’ve managed to go to so many different countries and it’s been a bit of a dream.”

Our Girl returns to BBC One at 9pm on October 10.
