Michelle Keegan will star as the wife of the England football icon Bobby Moore in ITV's new dramatisation of their life together

Michelle Keegan will play a starring role in Tina and Bobby, ITV's new three-part series about the relationship between England football legend Bobby Moore and his wife, Tina.

Grantchester actor Lorne MacFadyen will play Bobby Moore in the drama which is based on Tina Moore's memoir Bobby Moore: By The Person Who Knew Him Best.

“Most people will know the story of Bobby Moore’s achievements as captain of club and country – the only Englishman ever to lift the football World Cup,” said executiveproducer for ITV Studios, Kieran Roberts.

“Far fewer will know the story of his life with Tina  – a love story every bit as dramatic and epic as Bobby’s exploits on the pitch. We are delighted to be dramatising Tina and Bobby’s amazing story for ITV and, in Michelle and Lorne, we think we have the perfect casting of the ‘golden’ couple and we are thrilled.”

When England won the World Cup in July 1966 Bobby Moore became a national hero. Swept up by the media frenzy and the nation’s adoration, he and wife Tina were the original ‘golden’ couple.

Tina and Bobby will dramatise the story of the England and West Ham legend’s life with his childhood sweetheart, Tina Dean, from their humble beginnings to the dizzy heights of super-stardom.

A typist for the Prudential, Tina first met Bobby aged 15 when she ‘played hookey from school to go to the Ilford Palais with her cousin Jenny’.  Film star handsome and coolness personified, Bobby was only 17 himself and, though an exciting emerging talent, had yet to make a first team appearance.

The 3 x 60 minute drama will be produced by the ITV Studios drama team in Manchester and has been written by Lauren Klee (EastEnders, Waterloo Road, Holby City).
