Ophelia Lovibond: We messed around

Ophelia Lovibond has told how the cast of her new drama let off steam with a slew of "bad jokes" on set. The actress, 26, stars as art student Biba in The Poison Tree, a two-part ITV1 adaptation of the novel by Erin Kelly. Light relief from the dark drama was provided by the laughs Ophelia had with fellow actors Twilight star MyAnna Buring and Matthew Goode. "By a stroke of luck, MyAnna, Matthew and I all got on really well, and there was a lot of messing around," Ophelia said. "Because the content was so dark, there was even more mucking about in between takes than usual, and lots of bad jokes being told. "MyAnna in particular had some pretty bad dad jokes which went down very well." Ophelia's film roles have included playing assistant Pippa alongside Jim Carrey in Mr Popper's Penguins. But off camera, things "weren't crazy at all". "Jim was quite calm, he conserved his energy for the takes," she said. "He's quiet and softly spoken and polite, he's a really nice man. It was so much fun though, it didn't feel like work." :: The Poison Tree begins on ITV1 on Monday, December 10.
