The CEO of Marks & Spencer is to meet Jeremy Paxman after the presenter complained that the store's underwear no longer offered 'adequate support'. Sir Stuart Rose will meet Paxman to discuss what the Newsnight anchor feels are declining standards in M&S's socks and underpants, a spokeswoman for the chain confirmed. The 57-year-old presenter, who also chairs University Challenge, said that like many men, he had always bought his pants at M&S, and felt the matter was of great concern. "I've noticed that something very troubling has happened," he told the Mail on Sunday. "There's no other way to put this. Their pants no longer provide adequate support. The other thing is socks. Even among those of us who clip our toenails very rigorously they appear to be wearing out much more quickly on the big toe." Paxman told the newspaper Sir Stuart had taken the matter in good humour when he emailed him about it, but he had not expected it to become public. A spokeswoman for M&S confirmed Sir Stuart would be meeting Paxman in the coming weeks. "We welcome feedback from all our customers, and that includes Jeremy," she said. The number of complaints over M&S underwear was at its lowest for five years, she added.
