Peep Show final series: ‘Mark and Jeremy will not have a happy ending’

Robert Webb has warned Peep Show fans that there will be no happy ending to the final series, but says he’d love to see Mark and Jeremy back together as old men.

The actor plays hapless Jeremy in the Channel 4 sitcom about the mismatched best friends and housemates, alongside David Mitchell as Mark, and said he would be filming the final series next year.

“I always look forward to doing it because Jeremy is such an idiot and a great pleasure to play,” Robert said. “Knowing it’s the last one, I shall look forward to it with a sort of bittersweet element, but it’ll be great.”

Asked if there would be a happy ending for the pair, he replied: “No. They will be in horrible pain as usual. They will not win the Lottery, they will not have a happy ending.”

Robert was speaking during an interview to promote Perfect Nonsense, a play adapted from PG Wodehouse's novels, where he stars as aristocrat Bertie Wooster opposite Mark Heap as butler Jeeves at London’s Duke of York theatre.

Mark asked Robert: “Do you think when you’re 70, if you get that far, there’ll be a reunion or remake [of Peep Show]?”

Robert answered: “We are seriously thinking there should be a, ‘Whatever Happened to Peep Show?’ when David and I are at that threshold that you're just reaching, Mark, where you’re amusingly old, but not quite old enough that you can't learn your lines any more.”

Mark, 56, continued: “I’m thinking much more, really decrepit. I think it’s unlikely you'll get there, to be honest.”
