The celebrated French film-maker and comic performer Jacques Tati gets a well-deserved collectable box set, courtesy of BFI DVD, bringing together five of his most important works.

Jour de fête sees Tati equal Chaplin and Keaton in his role as a simple postman doing his rounds during a carnival in a picture postcard French village; Les Vacances de M. Hulot – the film that brought Tati international acclaim – sees the comic playing his famed on-screen alter ego: the well-meaning, but accident-prone Monsieur Hulot; the Oscar-winning cinematic masterpiece Mon Oncle sees Tati’s Hulot colliding with the absurdities of suburbia; while Playtime sees Hulot getting lost in modern Paris. Tati last film in the box set and his film swansong is Parade, in which two children find out what really goes on behind the scenes of a big top circus.

This beautiful BFI DVD box set is accompanied by some select special features, including an interview with Tati, filmed in London in 1977.
