San Andreas | Film Review - Prepare to be shaken and stirred as Dwayne Johnson & an earthquake hit LA

San Andreas - Carla Gugino & Dwayne Johnson

A fantastically entertaining old school disaster movie which benefits from its bang-up-to-date CGI effects as Los Angeles is decimated by an earthquake that tops 9.5 on the Richter scale. Dwayne Johnson fronts the human drama of San Andreas as a Search and Rescue pilot facing divorce who has to save his wife (Carla Gugino) and then his daughter (Alexandra Daddario) from the destruction. Paul Giametti's scientist is on hand to spout loads of nonsense about tectonic plates, Ioan Gruffud is the irredeemable billionaire baddie and Kylie Minogue has one of the shortest star cameos on record. The script positively revels in a string of familiar clichés, while the plot basically writes itself but really those fabulously cheesy moments are just there to provide some much needed breathers in between all the breath-taking SFX shocks as skyscrapers tumble and landmarks such as the Hoover Dam and the Golden Gate Bridge get a pasting. Awesome stuff, guaranteed to leave you shaken, stirred and thoroughly thrilled to bits.
