The cast of TV hit Shameless has taken to the streets of Manchester to raise cash for the victims of flooding in South Asia. Actor David Threlfall, who plays drunken layabout Frank Gallagher in the Channel 4 series, led the fundraising appearance. The event at St Ann's Square in the city centre was organised by Save the Children who have has launched a £2 million emergency appeal to supply clean water, food and shelter to children whose lives have been put in jeopardy. South Asia has seen hit by the most severe flooding in decades, with Bangladesh, India and Pakistan the worst affected countries. Around 10 million children are thought to be in danger. David, 53, said: "It's impossible to sit and watch the carnage these floods have caused and not do something about it. "Farmers have lost everything they own and are left with nothing - no way to make a living. "Children are at serious risk of disease and schools and homes have been completely washed away. "The cast of Shameless and I today are hoping to raise money to help Save the Children's emergency response, to reach out to the families that have had their lives destroyed by these floods. "We also hope that being here today will open people's eyes to the suffering and vulnerability of the families in South Asia."
