The Real Camilla: HRH the Duchess of Cornwall as you've never seen her before

TV Times top picks for today

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Monday 23rd April

The Real Camilla, 9pm, ITV

To mark her 70th birthday, the Duchess of Cornwall has allowed cameras a behind-the-scenes peek into a year of her life. This documentary delves into her private life, filming her on an official tour of Italy, dancing to Elvis with Prince Charles at a charity event and relaxing by walking her Jack Russell terriers. There are archive photographs that tell the story of her love affair with Prince Charles and the film also asks whether the nation will ever accept the idea of Queen Camilla on the throne. With contributions from friends and family, including Joanna Lumley and Camilla’s nephew Ben Elliot, the result is insightful and surprisingly intimate. Rating: ****

Nightmare Pets SOS, 7.30pm (times vary), BBC1

When this crisis centre for problem pets opens its doors again, first in are Jak and Lauren with aggressive rabbit Flo. Vet Jo Headley and behaviourist Sarah Fisher think Flo may have an issue with personal space. Will having her boundaries respected make Flo a happy bunny? Also featured is pig Frances Bacon, who can’t keep her snout out of punters’ food and beer in the pub where she lives. Rating: ***

Genius: Picasso, from 8pm, National Geographic

After last year’s Emmy-nominated Albert Einstein biopic, the Genius franchise is back with another famous face. This time, Pablo Picasso is in the spotlight, and who better to play him than Antonio Banderas, who hails from the Spanish artist’s home town of Málaga? As the 10-part series unfolds, we’ll see how Picasso’s love life influenced his paintings, how a turbulent relationship with the dictator Franco drove him into exile, and what sacrifices he made for his work. Even if you’re not interested in the art, Banderas’s powerhouse performance will keep you captivated. Rating: ***

More previews tomorrow.
