Cruising With Jane McDonald Se4 Ep 3

TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Friday 22nd June

Cruising with Jane McDonald, 9pm, Channel 5

After sampling Australia and New Zealand, this week sees Jane embark on a wonderful South American cruise, aboard a seriously luxurious ship where there seem to be a few drinks on the menu! As Jane heads down the Chile coast, she takes a wee dram of whisky on the rocks, chilled by ice taken directly from a glacier on Laguna San Rafael. Then it’s off to Patagonia for cocktails and lunch with a local family before Jane makes her way to the Falklands for an emotional and revealing chat with war veterans at a pub. Then, as Jane arrives in Argentina, it’s time for a boogie as Jane has a spirited go at the tango. We’ve a feeling Strictly might not be calling just yet! Rating: ****

Isle of Wight Festival, 7pm, Sky Arts

The festival that kicks off the UK’s music season proper gets its 50th anniversary going with sets from Rita Ora – no doubt belting out a few hits from her much-anticipated and delayed second album – plus The Script, Nile Rodgers & Chic, Walking on Cars, Bang Bang Romeo and headliners Kasabian (whose set is also on Sky One). After today, Depeche Mode, Liam Gallagher and more keep things rocking over the weekend. Rating: ****

The Bridge, 9pm BBC2

The creators of The Bridge have clearly decided to really go for it in this final series, a particularly dark slab of Scandi-noir. And after six particularly dour but gripping episodes, it looks at first like more of the same this evening, with the gruff Solveig refusing point blank to tell the police what she knows. But things change really suddenly after a major breakthrough – into both the case of the multiple murders and the whereabouts of Henrik’s family. Saga is, as ever, worth watching every second she’s on screen, but this is Henrik’s episode, and he gets a lump-in-throat finish that sets us up nicely for next week’s big farewell. Rating: *****

More previews tomorrow.
