TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Friday 23rd February

Cruising with Jane McDonald, 9.00pm, C5

This week we’re in southeast Asia as the sassy singer sets sail along the famous Mekong river. Taking in the stunning views aboard the Amadara is a serene experience, but before she can get on the boat Jane has to contend with the hectic port of Ho Chi Minh City – although she does manage to fit in some retail therapy, Vietnam style, in the famous markets (handmade shoes while you wait, for a fiver!). Crossing into Cambodia, which is embracing tourism after years of being a no-go area, game Jane samples the local delicacies, including some rather crunchy creepy-crawlies! With exotic sights and ancient temples around every bend, Ms McDonald finds herself genuinely inspired by her exotic expedition… Rating: ****

Googlebox, 9.00pm, C4

It’s hard to believe that it has only been five years since TV’s best-loved couch potatoes first welcomed us into their homes. The gloriously naughty Leon Bernicoff, who sadly passed away in December, and his exasperated but adoring wife June, will leave a massive hole as the show returns without them. Thankfully, all of our other favourites are set to be back, from hysterical pals Jenny and Lee to the close-knit Michael family (what will mum Carolyne be knitting this time?) and, of course Brighton buddies Chris and Stephen – here’s hoping for more guest appearances from their super-cute dogs and Stephen’s hilarious mum, Pat! Rating: *****

The Old Grey Whistle Test Live…, 9.00pm, BBC4

…For One Night Only. A three-hour special marks 30 years since the last broadcast of the iconic live music show. Bob Harris delves into the archives and welcomes performers and guests from the highest ranks of rock royalty, including Dave Stewart, Joan Armatrading and Peter Frampton. Rating: ****

David is the What To Watch Editor and has over 20 years of experience in television journalism. He is currently writing about the latest television and film news for What To Watch.

Before working for What To Watch, David spent many years working for TV Times magazine, interviewing some of television's most famous stars including Hollywood actor Kiefer Sutherland, singer Lionel Richie and wildlife legend Sir David Attenborough.

David started out as a writer for TV Times before becoming the title's deputy features editor and then features editor. During his time on TV Times, David also helped run the annual TV Times Awards. David is a huge Death in Paradise fan, although he's still failed to solve a case before the show's detective! Other than watching and writing about telly, David loves playing cricket, going to the cinema, trying to improve his tennis and chasing about after his kids!
