TV Times top picks for tonight

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Friday 31st August

Jack Ryan, Amazon Prime Video

Jack Ryan has been a familiar figure on the big screen since 1990’s The Hunt for Red October, with Alec Baldwin and Harrison Ford among the actors who’ve portrayed Tom Clancy’s CIA officer in the film franchise. Now John Krasinski joins the club when he stars in Amazon Prime’s gripping eight-part TV version alongside Wendell Pierce (The Wire), who plays Jack’s boss, James Greer. It follows the rookie analyst after he finds bank transactions suggesting an imminent terror attack on the West. Krasinksi is impressive as Jack, who is in the thick of the action when he travels to Yemen to interrogate a suspect – only for all hell to break out on a military base. Rating: ****

Say Yes to the Dress: UK, 8pm, TLC

A special edition of the UK spin-off show sees our very own Gok Wan take charge as brides implore him to solve their wedding-dress dilemmas. Gok, who is set to host a Lancashire-based Say Yes to the Dress next year, has his work cut out with the self-described ‘very picky, very stubborn’ Sarah. This super-glam bride has tried on more than 40 dresses and has a very specific vision of what she wants. She has £3,000 to spend, but can Gok succeed where others have failed? Gok also meets Sophie, who thinks she’s found the perfect gown – but, according to her grandmother, it makes her bum look ‘massive’! Cor, don’t sit on the fence, Nan! Rating: ***

Britain by Bike, 8pm, Channel 5

Father-and-son duo Larry and George Lamb take on the cycle routes of Britain’s first-ever national park, the Peak District. They ease their way in to proceedings on its flattest route, the Monsal Trail. After that, they head to the White Peaks, where they challenge each other to a race – George on his bike, with Larry in a 1920s Model-A Ford. Later, they drop in on Bakewell for a sweet treat and visit the home of World Hen Racing, borrowing a couple of chickens for the occasion. Relaxing. Rating: ****
