What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight three of the best shows on telly tonight for Monday 11th December
Bancroft, 9.00pm, ITV
DCI Elizabeth Bancroft (Broadchurch and Cutting It star Sarah Parish, who's spoken to us about the series) is a ruthless, brilliant cop who’s devoted her life to her work, and has more than a few dark secrets in her past. And, in the long tradition of maverick lawmakers, Bancroft often employs unconventional methods to get results… In this compelling four-part drama by Kate Brooke (Mr Selfridge, Ice Cream Girls), new recruit DS Katherine Stevens (Game of Thrones and Love, Nina star Faye Marsay) is assigned to a cold case that has serious consequences for Bancroft… You won’t have to wait long to find out what happens next – the drama continues nightly until Thursday. Kirstie’s Handmade Christmas, 5.00pm, C4
Kirstie Allsopp returns with more inspirational festive prepping tips in a daytime series that follows last week’s one-off episode. In today’s first programme, TV’s own craftmistress sets up her Christmas HQ, which will host a daily competition between the country’s best creative types – beginning with a Christmas cake-decorating face-off! The programme also features amazing baubles to make your tree shine, and Kirstie shows how to make personalised tags for your presents. There’s also the perfect seasonal garland, which you’ll want to bring out year after year. Continues tomorrow. Rating: ****
The Real Marigold on Tour, times vary, BBC1
Being a pensioner in Cuba looks like a blast and, this week, we see Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes, darts legend Bobby George, dancer Wayne Sleep and former newsreader Jan Leeming check out the all-dancing, partying city of Havana. But while Miriam moans about the lack of internet, Bobby plays dominos and Wayne joins a dance troupe, flirty Jan takes a chance on a holiday romance. ‘I’d like to meet someone but unfortunately that might never happen now,’ she says. Miriam, who describes herself as ‘an old tart’ soon warms to her surroundings when she attends a class about sex for pensioners and Wayne finds that he has a new lease of life. Heart-warming, inspiring stuff. Rating: ****
