TV Times top picks for today

What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Saturday 21st April

The Keith & Paddy Picture Show, 9.20pm, ITV

Get your aviator shades on – we’re heading into the ‘Danger Zone’ this week! Yes, Keith and Paddy are donning their flight suits to recreate Eighties classic Top Gun in just half an hour. Keith is Tom Cruise’s Maverick while Paddy takes over from Anthony Edwards to play wingman Goose. There’s the usual smattering of brilliant guest stars including Sarah Parish as Charlie, Marc Warren as Iceman, one half of the Chuckle brothers (Paul) as Viper and Kriss Akabusi as himself! No expense has been spared, of course, so Keith and Paddy hire a real cockpit from a Tornado jet and take themselves off to a military boot camp to help get into character. As bonkers and hilarious as you would expect. Rating: ****

Britain’s Got Talent, 8pm, ITV

What’s on telly tonight? Our pick of the best shows on Saturday 21st April

We don’t think we’ve ever seen as much variety in an opening episode of BGT as we did last Saturday. We had acrobats, escapologists and a man who did some very unusual things with crockery, so we have high hopes for what might be gracing the stage as the auditions continue tonight. Of course, as well as the seriously skilled acts, we do love a great British eccentric… and, don’t worry, there’ll be plenty of those, too!

The Queen’s Birthday Party, 8.00pm, BBC1

The stars come out to celebrate at The Queen's Birthday Party

The Queen might not be having jelly and ice cream and a round of pass the parcel for her 92nd birthday party (we’d love it if she did!), but some rather fine entertainment is being laid on to help her celebrate. London’s Royal Albert Hall is playing host to a range of tip-top talent, who are gathering to give Her Majesty a night to remember. The lavish live concert, which is also being broadcast on BBC Radio Two, brings us the voices of Sir Tom Jones, Alfie Boe, Kylie Minogue, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Call the Midwife’s Helen George and more. Here’s hoping they all get together to give her the bumps at the end of the night!

More previews tomorrow.
