What’s on telly tonight? Here the TV Times team of expert reviewers highlight the best shows on Saturday 28th July

My Family and the Galapagos, 8pm, C4

Explorer and marine biologist Monty Halls goes on a research trip like no other in this three-part series. For three months he moves his young family – five-year-old Isla, three-year-old Molly and wife Tamsin – to the Galapagos Islands. ‘There is no better explorer than a five-year-old,’ he says, as his girls look wide-eyed at the amazing wildlife all around them. But this is not just a holiday: Tamsin, a keen environmentalist, is looking at the state of the islands’ beaches, and, in particular, the shocking amount of plastic washing up on shore. Monty is also busy with research on the health of these unique islands and the stunning wildlife that calls them home. Rating: *****

A Year in the New Forest, 7pm, C4

The cultivation of the New Forest in Hampshire can be traced back as far as the Bronze Age. Today it’s home to spectacular wildlife, including ponies, badgers and deer, living side by side with their human neighbours. Narrated by Tamsin Greig, this new series tells the fascinating tale of the forest through the seasons, beginning with September’s ripening of acorns, which signals the start of the red deer’s rutting season. With November frost comes TB testing of livestock, an anxious time for tenant farmers, as failure to pass means all the forest’s cattle will be slaughtered. Rating: ****

Big Star’s Little Star, 7pm, ITV

Stephen Mulhern hosts a new series of the show that proves children really do say the funniest things, as three celebrities’ kids get the chance to dish the dirt on their famous parents. First up are Stacey Solomon and her nine-year-old son, Zachary, John Thomson and daughter Sophia, seven, and Jenny Powell and her eight-year-old, Pollyanna. Rating: ****

More previews tomorrow.
