But as both Christopher and the wonderfully-wise Nurse Crane try to help her, can she get back on the wagon once more? There’s worry in store for Sister Monica Joan, too, when she is diagnosed with cataracts and refuses to have an operation, but her colleagues rally. Endeavour, 8.00pm, ITV

Endeavour

"It’s a rum go and no mistake," says the very perceptive Thursday as he and Endeavour investigate odd goings-on at an Oxford cinema. When a former cop is poisoned, attention is drawn to the picture house where he spent his final hours. Then, when the cinema hosts a Q&A with acclaimed horror film star Emil Valdemar (Donald Sumpter), a poisoned martini kills the organist – but is a rumoured Egyptian curse really responsible? Meanwhile, as arson attacks on Asian immigrants also give cause for concern, Thursday has another cross to bear in the form of his flashy brother Charlie (scene-stealing ex-EastEnder Phil Daniels) who comes to stay. And could romance be on the cards for Endeavour? Rating: *****

McMafia, 9.00pm, BBC1

One hour of back-stabbing and dodgy dealings left before this divisive thriller reaches its breathtaking conclusion.
